To prompose is to propose a musical possibility, prompt its development through generative AI, and exercise creative judgment over what emerges.

AI Music Promposer

A human who initiates, directs, selects, develops, or releases music through AI Music Promposing, using language, imagination, generative AI, and varying degrees of human creative judgment to bring music into being.

A composer organizes musical sound. An AI Music Promposer organizes musical possibility.

Composer, promposer, or both?

Composition describes the musical construction. Promposing describes the AI-assisted creative method. Promposition names the resulting musical work.

Composer

Creates or substantially shapes musical expression, including melody, harmony, rhythm, lyrics, form, orchestration, or other musical elements.

Promposer isn't a lesser form of composer. It names a different creative faculty: the ability to imagine, articulate, direct, judge, and select musical possibility.

Some people will compose their prompositions, others will prompose compositions, and many will do both.
